New Technology: Haptic Feedback for Touchscreens

80K views · 14 years ago · demo · dated

A short GameSpot piece on haptic feedback for touchscreens, showing technology that lets a flat screen give tactile sensations instead of a plain vibration. It is a demo of the idea rather than a design talk.

HN people link it as the example of electrostatic touchscreen haptics, wanting something better than a plain vibration for touch devices.

They should have gone all the way- and revolutionize the whole laptop-keyboard away, with an additional touch screen, with synthetic haptic keys on demand and a background illuminated e-ink display. Add a GUI designed just for this to the whole Setup, and let it be executed by Perfectionists like apples- and they would rule the HW-Valley till kingdom come.
