I 3D Printed Origami

417K views · 10 months ago · demo · evergreen

Maker Matthew Lim shows his experiments in 3D printing origami, making printed objects that fold like paper. It is a build video about the printing and folding problem rather than a talk.

HN people keep submitting it as a neat example of origami-style folding made with a 3D printer.

There is also 3d printing origami shapes [1]. But 3D printing is still plastic(usually). The idea of origami steel sheets has stuck on my mind ever since I found out about laser welding. Cutting thin 2mm sheets of steel, stitching them back together in different shapes, and holding tons of weight? That sounds very compelling to me. [1]▶ this video
