Google Maps Hacks by Simon Weckert

Artist Simon Weckert documents a piece in which he pulls a handcart carrying 99 smartphones, all running Google Maps, through Berlin streets. The phones register as heavy traffic, and Maps shows a traffic jam on empty roads.

HN people share it as a simple, funny demonstration of how Google Maps reads traffic from phones, and bring it up in threads on spoofing and traffic systems.

“He put 99 smart phones in a wagon with all of them running Google maps in drive mode.”
