The New York City Evolution Animation

An animated map by Myles Zhang showing how New York City grew over time, from the first Dutch settlement to the present day. It lets viewers watch the city's street grid and built-up area expand through the centuries.

HN people share it as an enjoyable way to see the expansion of NYC over time, usually in threads about the city's rail and street history.
