XAYAX - Bang! (ATARI VCS 2600 demo)

124K views · 12 years ago · demo · evergreen

Bang! by XAYAX is a demoscene production for the Atari VCS 2600, a machine with extremely little memory and graphics hardware. It was shown by the Museum of Electronic Games & Art and made in 2014.

HN calls it one of the most impressive demos ever, and uses it as proof that the 2600 scene is alive and that modern hardware is wildly overpowered by comparison.

On that note, this is one of the most impressive demos I've ever seen: ▶ this video (When you're familiar with what a baseline atari 2600 game looks like, this is just beyond the pale.)

2600 programming is alive in the demo scene. This was just created in 2014 and is completely insane: ▶ this video

After seeing demos like Bang!/XayaX [1] and Chiphead/Altair [2], it is pretty clear that the hardware that I work on is ridiculously overpowered. [1] ▶ this video [2] link
