Developing the best free photo editor - Ivan KUCKIR - Web2day 2019

15K views · 7 years ago · talk · intermediate · dated

Ivan Kuckir, the creator of Photopea, explains at Web2day 2019 how he built a browser-based photo editor that opens Photoshop files, largely on his own. He covers the technology choices and how he keeps it small and cheap to run.

HN people share it as the first-hand story of how one developer built a free Photoshop alternative, and Kuckir himself links it in threads about Photopea.

Yes, Photopea is only one HTML, one CSS and many JS files. It is about 1.5 MB in total. I pay 40 USD a year for the hosting + 12 USD a year for the .com domain. I gave a talk about it: ▶ this video
