Generative AI for Krita - With ControlNet

223K views · 3 years ago · demo · dated

A demonstration of a generative AI plugin for the open-source painting program Krita, using Stable Diffusion with ControlNet. It shows sketches and selections being turned into finished image regions inside a normal painting workflow.

HN people find it striking that open-source Krita matches Photoshop's generative fill, and cite it as the way a traditional artist can fit AI into their own workflow.

“here we have an open source software replicating this same thing, so cool.”

Yes exactly. There are some written guides now but I actually just learned from the original demonstration videos. Copied what happened there and started tinkering around Most of the times if something didn't work for me that was mostly because my lack of knowledge about Krita ▶ this video link link

▶ this video the video is mindblowing because on one hand, adobe photoshop announced this as "their own next big thing" and here we have an open source software replicating this same thing, so cool. edit: this also means photoshop doesnt have the "moat" they seem to have built around the generative ai thing and their software.

> there's been zero progress on actually meaningfully integrating AI into artists' workflow. This simply isn't true. An easy way someone who does most of their art more "traditionally" can use Krita to very much just use AI to help finish a project. ▶ this video ComfyUI was also designed from the ground up to follow the same sort of node-based workflow that many CG artists are used to with things like Houdini, Blender, Substance Designer, etc., and includes all sorts of ways you can arbitrarily control where and how much the AI is used for.
