The Next Leap: How A.I. will change the 3D industry - Andrew Price

1M views · 7 years ago · talk · dated

Andrew Price, of Blender Guru, gives a talk at the Blender Conference on how AI and machine learning could change 3D creation. He surveys the ways deep learning might transform modeling, texturing and animation workflows.

HN people cite it as a good summary of how deep learning will transform computer graphics, and list it among talks on procedural generation and AI in 3D.

“does a decent job summarizing some of the ways deep learning will transform computer graphics”

Looks amazing! Note that the author also has a fantasy city generator: link And mansion generator: link If you're into that kind of stuff, there's a world map generator(by different author): link and this amazing tutorial on generating maps: link ---- Also, kinda relevant - awesome talks about modern procedural generation techniques(with AI, Houdini, etc): How AI will change 3D industry ▶ this video Procedural world generation for Far Cry link Procedurally generating Manhattan for Spider Man link Mindblowing talks by Anastasia Opara (using cool math, deep learning, and a lot of creativity to create crazy cool stuff) link She is the author of the most impressive procedural generation project I've ever seen: link ---- Also, I myself have made a little tutorial about procedurally generating a 3D landscape in Houdini: link

Somewhat related(okay, not really, but still fun) - awesome talks about modern procedural generation techniques(with AI, Houdini, etc): How AI will change 3D industry ▶ this video Procedural world generation for Far Cry link Procedurally generating Manhattan for Spider Man link Mindblowing talks by Anastasia Opara (using cool math, deep learning, and a lot of creativity to create crazy cool stuff) link Procedurally generating 3D landscape in Houdini (a little tutorial I have made, can't resist sharing) link

You're wrong. Machine Learning is driving all of the ad placement on major ad platforms, personalization on all top social/media apps, search ranking for google, translation, speech recognition, finance, fraud detection. In the next decade it will start taking over computer graphics, medicine, manufacturing, surveillance, hardware / software and every other aspect of our lives. EDIT: for people who are downvoting me, here are some examples of how machine learning is and will transform our lives: 1. 3D graphics: ▶ this video Andrew Price doesn't have a technical background but does a decent job summarizing some of the ways deep learning will transform computer graphics. Soon all of the mocap, character design and animation will be driven by deep learning systems. 2. Computer Architecture and Traditional Software: link There's a ton of recent research showing that you can use machine learning to beat human crafted heuristics in hardware, scheduling, compiler design and query planning.
