AR Screen hackathon project

603K views · 11 years ago · demo · intermediate · dated

A hackathon demo of an augmented reality screen built with a Leap Motion controller and an Oculus DK2 headset. Virtual screens appear in the user's surroundings and are controlled by hand.

HN is split: some cite it as a neat early example of AR and VR passthrough interfaces, and one thread asks whether the video is real at all.

AR or MR is the endgame. Once the technology is capable of blocking out the world then you have VR in MR. Similar attempts have been made with passthrough video with VR[1]; the tech will converge at some point, it's inevitable. So while you may not be the only one who doesn't want this tech to come about you and anyone else who shares your sentiments are wishing for something that absolutely won't happen. As for your usability concerns, those always come later as the tech matures. [1]▶ this video

▶ this video A friend sent me this video, which is from a few months ago. I've seen some VR presentations that allow people to code in VR and such so I know it's not that far of a stretch...but from your knowledge and experience, do you think this video is real?
