Coding Adventure: Atmosphere

1.3M views · 6 years ago · demo · intermediate · evergreen

Sebastian Lague builds a planet atmosphere from scratch in Unity, simulating how light scatters to produce blue skies and sunsets. He explains the approximations needed to make it run in real time.

HN people recommend it as an entertaining look at real-time Rayleigh scattering, and for the pleasure of watching visuals take shape from nothing.

I saw this a while ago so it might not be totally related, but Sebastian Lague did a video on atmospheres for his planet generation experiment which was also very entertaining to watch [1]. There's something particularly entertaining on developing visuals and watching them come a reality — I hope at some point be able to experiment in this field. [1] ▶ this video
