Procedurally Generating History in Caves of Qud

43K views · 8 years ago · talk · intermediate · evergreen

A GDC talk on how the roguelike Caves of Qud generates its world's history procedurally. It covers how the game builds histories and stories for places and characters from generated material.

HN people add it to lists of procedural generation talks and find its approach to generated history pretty interesting.

The game "Caves of Qud"'s creators have given some GDC talks on procedurally generated histories [1] which I thought was pretty interesting. But it all seems very limited and hacked since NLP research is still very far from creating any useful text generation like good summaries let alone fiction. [1] ▶ this video
